Thankful, Once Was Lost and Now I’m Found

The “Thanksgiving week” just completed and I still have a “tune” playing inside me. Thanks to modern ” smart phone recorder” that I hummed the tune into this tiny phone. Upon reaching home, the first thing to do — “piano” it! Recording the verse and chorus, I am now 50% done! I reached out to my go-to all around musician, Godwin Owulo with a 58 seconds recording, and presto… I have the music in 3 days! I fondly called this “Thankful.”

I wrote the words to the tune in the wee-hours of Nov-29, it was ‘amazingly’ easy… words were flowing faster than I can type.. With the words completed, I reached out to my singer friends Vincent and Denise Bates of the JazzSuites to complete the “Thankful” song. VB&DB finished recording in one sitting!

So here you go…

1. With all the burdens and defeats
   Crooked alleys, cold dark streets.
   The road gets rough, the night gets dark
   All circling around a question mark.
2. When all your dreams have gone astray
   East and west, in separate ways
   Cloudy sky, a sleepless night,
   Answers to Questions, that’s never right
3. For a second, appears a shining star
   A dazzling light, miles and miles afar
   A glimpse of hope, in the midst of dark despair
   From the book of life, the answers just everywhere.
4. And in a flash, you offered me your love
   Heaven’s gate, the blessings from above
   Love, peace, and joy, in greatest abundance
   I am thankful my Lord, for giving me one more chance
5. The birds, the bees, they labor and store?
   The grass of the fields, do they ask for more?
   The deepest seas and the brightest skies,
   For me, for you, for the meek and the wise.
6. Amazing grace, the sweetest sound
   Once was lost, and now am found.
   Saving the thankless wretch in me
   Opened my eyes and now I see
7. For a quick second, appeared your shining star
   A sparkling light, millions of miles afar
   A glimpse of hope, in the midst of dark despair
   For your book of life, the answers just everywhere.
8. And for a lifetime, you offered me your love
   Heaven’s gate, the blessings from above
   Love, peace, and joy, with all its greatest abundance
   I am thankful oh my Lord, giving me this one more chance
9. No burdens, no worries nor bad defeats
   Joy and laughter in now lighted streets
   With your gift of love, no more darkest dark
   Now life is never a question mark.
