Simple and Easy Prevention Tips
- Close and lock your windows and doors. Strangely, one of th easiest to do and easiest to forget doing is LOCK your DOOR.
- Lock your garage door. Never leave a GAP between the door and the ground. It is too tempting for buglars not to miss, that GAP provides one step easier for them to pry open your garage door.
- Keep bushes and shrubs trimmed so windows and doors are visible. Opps, looks like we are guilty of this too.
- Maintain your home and make it looked lived in. In Arcadia, where we have so many China’s homes that are not “lived-in”, they are nice and beautiful houses, but does not contribute to the safety of the community. Sorry.
- Don’t leave newspapers, mailers and door hangers untouched. They are invitation for burglaries. See how many homes have this old newspapers piling up the doorsteps, or flyers in the front gates.
- Know your neighbors. Familiarize cars and faces, who and when. Before hitting on a house, they first ‘case’ you. An unfamiliar car parked nearby, an unfamiliar face walking around.
- Leave different lights on when you leave. Yes use multiple timers in multiple rooms, automatically switching on and off a few minutes at night and most especially during the early mornings.
- Get an Alarm. The way things are happening, this is a MUST have.
- Install cameras. This is now a “must have”, real cameras, and not dummy cameras. And make sure your camera is able to record, able to use the internet to allow you to view when you are in or out of your house.
- Install beeping sensors. These are low cost very effective deterents. When motion is detected, you (or the burglar) hears a beep, which serves more like a warning shot warning them to keep out!
