New Year of the Pig

Chinese New Year, or Lunar New Year, or Lantern Festival or Spring Festival, and what? Chinese New 2019 is Feb-5. Why not a fixed date? Well, there is no set date for Chinese New Year.

The Chinese New Year is the longest holiday in China. Usually 10 to 15 days. For 2019, it starts on January 31 until February 10th, some may last until February 19.

The Chinese New Year causes the largest migration in the world. Well, yes, in China, where millions travel for the traditional family reunion meal. It may sound funny, or crazy, but many travel for days for that one dinner and had to travel back to work for days. We have our own experience of traveling during the holidays from Hongkong to Xiamen, and back, and swore that we will never – never – do that again. 🙁

Things you should not do on Chinese New Year.

No haircut, no arguing, no showering, no sweeping, no throwing away anything including garbage on the Chinese New Year. Make sure you do not wash away, or throw away the good luck on the Chinese New Year!

Things you should do on Chinese New Year. Give out Red Envelopes at least to your children, eat misua, and most importantly, wear red.
